The Eclipse is an innovative umbrella concept developed by Umbrosa. Elevenfeet and an engineering office both got the opportunity to finalize the concept. Because of the complex and rather large shape we considered the aluminum structure as a fixed element.
We were given the task to design a quick and efficient way to place, remove and store a shadow making element without degradation to the aesthetics. The solution makes use of fabric with fiberglass rods along the edges in a sleek and minimalist suspension system. Because of the fiberglass rods, it is possible to store the umbrella in an instant by simple twisting the fiberglass circle into a smaller one. The placing, removing and storing of the element can be done by one person.
